Ficus Elastica 'Burgundy'
Ficus Elastica 'Burgundy'
Botanical Name: Ficus elastica
Common Name(s): Rubber Plant, Rubber Tree, Rubber Fig
Description:
If you love a bold, dramatic houseplant with attitude, the Ficus elastica ‘Burgundy’ is basically the moody Gen-X older sibling of the ficus family. Native to India and Southeast Asia, this beauty is known for its deep, glossy, nearly-black leaves that make any corner look instantly more intentional. In the wild, these giants can soar up to 200 feet (yes, taller than your family drama), and in parts of India their roots are even trained into living bridges. Indoors, they stay perfectly manageable, giving you that miniature-tree vibe without taking over the house.
Lighting:
Give your Rubber Plant a bright, indirect view of the sky. It does not appreciate low light — it’ll drop leaves quicker than you drop hints.
Watering:
Allow the soil to dry about 25% before watering again. They like consistency — damp, never soggy, never bone dry. Think “moist like a wrung-out sponge.”
Pet Safety:
🚫 Not pet friendly. This plant contains natural latex that can irritate skin and is toxic if ingested. Keep away from curious pets and anyone with latex allergies.
Fleurish Tip:
Rotate your Rubber Plant every couple of weeks to keep it growing straight and full, and wipe those leaves with a soft cloth to let that gorgeous shine… well… fleurish. 🌿✨
