The Calathea 'Makoyana' is one of the most elegant and recognizable members of the Prayer Plant family. Its delicate, oval leaves are beautifully patterned with deep green feather-like markings set against a light green background, while the undersides display rich burgundy hues. The intricate patterns resemble the tail feathers of a peacock, giving this stunning plant its well-earned common name.

Like all Prayer Plants, the Makoyana gently raises and lowers its leaves throughout the day in response to changing light, a fascinating movement known as nyctinasty. Native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, this lush beauty brings texture, movement, and vibrant foliage to any indoor plant collection.

Thrives with an indirect view of the sky.

Bright to medium indirect light keeps the foliage vibrant and the intricate patterns well-defined. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade the leaf markings and scorch the delicate foliage.

Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry 25% before watering again.

Calathea Makoyana prefers consistently moist soil but should never remain waterlogged. Filtered, distilled, or rainwater is recommended to help prevent brown leaf edges caused by minerals commonly found in tap water.
