Calathea Concinna 'Freddie' - 4" Pot

🌿 Botanical Name

Calathea concinna 'Freddie'

💚 Common Names

Freddie Calathea, Peacock Plant, Prayer Plant

🌿 Description

The Calathea 'Freddie' is a graceful tropical houseplant admired for its elongated, soft green leaves decorated with dark green feather-like stripes. Its elegant foliage brings a fresh, calming feel to any indoor space, making it a favorite for homes, offices, and plant collections alike.

Like all Prayer Plants, the Freddie gently raises and lowers its leaves throughout the day in response to changing light, a fascinating movement known as nyctinasty. Native to tropical rainforests, it thrives in warm, humid environments where its beautiful patterned foliage can truly shine.

Elegant. Peaceful. Full of movement.

☀️ Light

Thrives with an indirect view of the sky.

Bright to medium indirect light helps maintain the vibrant leaf pattern. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade the markings and scorch the foliage.

💧 Water

Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry 25% before watering again.

Calatheas prefer consistently moist soil but should never sit in standing water. Using filtered, distilled, or rainwater can help prevent brown leaf edges caused by minerals found in tap water.

🌡️ Temperature & Environment

Prefers temperatures between 65–80°F.

Freddie loves moderate to high humidity and thrives in bathrooms, kitchens, or near a humidifier. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

🌱 Soil

Use a rich, well-draining indoor potting mix that retains moisture while allowing excess water to drain. Always plant in a pot with drainage holes.

🪴 Growth Habit

A compact, clumping tropical with upright foliage that forms a full, lush display over time. Perfect for shelves, tabletops, and decorative planters.

🐾 Pet Friendly?

Yes! Calathea 'Freddie' is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.

🌿 Fleurish Tip

If the leaves begin curling or the edges turn brown, your Freddie is usually asking for more humidity or higher-quality water. Don't be surprised when you notice the leaves gently moving throughout the day—it's simply your Prayer Plant following the light.
