Resurrection Fern
Resurrection Fern
Botanical Name: Pleopeltis polypodioides
Common Names: Resurrection Fern
Description:
The Resurrection Fern is a fascinating, resilient plant native to the southeastern United States. You’ll often find it growing on trees, logs, and rocks—soaking up moisture from the air rather than relying on soil. What makes this fern truly magical is its ability to completely dry out, curl up, and appear “dead”… then bounce back to life within hours after watering.
Its soft, feathery green fronds create a natural, woodland vibe, making it a unique conversation piece for any plant parent looking for something a little different.
FEATURES
Light:
Prefers bright light with an indirect view of the sky. Can tolerate lower light but thrives with good exposure.
Water:
Allow the plant to dry out 100% between waterings. When fully dry, soak or mist thoroughly and watch it “resurrect” back to life.
Or you can let it just touch water and use the humidity. It’s an epiphyte, meaning it naturally grows on trees and pulls moisture from the air and rain, not from constantly wet roots.
Humidity:
Loves higher humidity and benefits from occasional misting.
Growth Habit:
Epiphytic—naturally grows attached to surfaces like wood or bark rather than in traditional soil.
Pet Safety:
🐾 Generally considered pet-friendly.
💡 Fleurish Tip:
Don’t panic when it dries out and looks crispy—that’s its superpower. Give it a good soak, and within hours it’ll be back to soft, green, and thriving like nothing ever happened. Nature’s drama queen… but in the best way. 🌿
