Amydrium 'Silver'
-
Botanical Name: Amydrium medium ‘Silver’
-
Common Name(s): Spiderman Monstera
🌿 Description
Amydrium medium ‘Silver,’ often nicknamed Spiderman Monstera, is a rare and eye-catching climber known for its elongated, fenestrated leaves dusted in a subtle silvery sheen.
While it’s frequently compared to Monstera, it does not belong to the Monstera genus. It is part of the Araceae family (alongside Monstera, Philodendron, and Anthurium) and is native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia — not South America.
Its narrow leaves develop dramatic splits as they mature, creating that webbed, “spider-like” look that gives it its common name. Sleek, architectural, and a little mysterious — it’s a collector favorite.
☀️ Light
Thrives in bright light with an indirect view of the sky.
Brighter indirect light supports stronger fenestration and compact growth. Avoid harsh direct sun.
💧 Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry about 50% before watering again.
Consistent moisture is important, but never allow it to sit in soggy soil.
🌡 Temperature & Environment
-
Prefers 65–85°F.
-
Stable indoor conditions work well.
-
Protect from cold drafts.
🌱 Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix that allows airflow around the roots. Drainage holes are essential.
🪴 Growth Habit
This is a climber. Providing a moss pole or sturdy support encourages larger leaves and more dramatic splits over time.
🐾 Pet Safety
Not pet-safe. Keep out of reach of pets.
🌿 Fleurish Tip
If the leaves stay small or lack fenestration, evaluate two things first: light and support. Bright indirect light plus vertical structure encourages mature leaf development. Stability builds drama.
Rare, refined, and a little edgy — Amydrium ‘Silver’ brings that collector-level energy without demanding chaos.
